Wazis are beautiful, beaded leather sandals for women, handmade in Arusha and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The high-grade supple leather comes from Moshi; the accompanying bags are made from local kitenge and hand-woven organic cotton produced by local tailors.
Wazi shoe and bag production provide steady employment to many Tanzanians. Women and men work together designing and producing beadwork, while men cut and trace the leather. Almost entirely hand-crafted, each pair takes days to create — joining the soles to the leather is the only mechanical process. Each season new styles will be released.
In Swahili, Wazi means “open” and Safari Njema means “travel well”. We hope that the women who wear Wazis will be comfortable and open-minded wherever they go.
